The TCS New York City Marathon is Sunday, November 1, 2026, the 50th anniversary of the five-borough course. Runners start on Staten Island at the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, continue through Brooklyn, cross the Pulaski Bridge into Queens, come up First Avenue in Manhattan, cross the Willis Avenue Bridge into the Bronx, return on Fifth Avenue, and finish in Central Park. Expect closures along that course from early morning. Check NYC DOT and NYPD advisories the week of the race, and the public race page at nyrr.org, before you lock an airport pickup or a meeting arrival.
What an assistant can plan before the advisory is out
A race-day reservation is a sequence, not a normal Sunday drive. The course tells you which corridors are in play. It does not give you a door-by-door closure list for a particular building. Treat a street on the course as closed from early morning until you have read that week's police and transportation notice. If the notice is not published yet, book the car with a time buffer and a second door, and tell the traveler the arrival is provisional.
Do not invent a start-gun time or a minute when Fifth Avenue reopens. Those details belong to the 2026 official notice. The booking facts already in hand are the date, the course, the hard appointment, and the airport if there is a flight.
Airport runs that have to cross the course
JFK is in southern Queens. LaGuardia is in northern Queens. The course enters Queens on the Pulaski Bridge, so a car moving between Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan can meet the race even when the airport curb itself is open. Airport meeting rules do not pause for the marathon. A JFK car service arrival still follows that terminal's current instruction. An LGA car service pickup is still the terminal the airport assigns. Add race-day time on the city side. Do not describe wheels-down as the time the traveler will reach a meeting.
Newark Liberty is in New Jersey. The course does not run through the airport, but the Manhattan end of a Newark transfer can still be blocked if the drop is on Fifth Avenue, beside Central Park, or on a street the advisory closes. Car service to Newark Airport still needs the terminal and a door that is off the course. Teterboro and Westchester are different fields. Say so if the flight is there. A Newark quote does not cover White Plains, and a JFK note does not cover Newark.
If the traveler lands and goes to one confirmed door, ask for a transfer quote. If the same car then waits through a meeting, or has to try a second door because the first street is closed, book hourly chauffeur service. Sedan hourly service starts at $120, with a three-hour minimum of $360. SUV service starts at $150, $450 for three hours. No marathon surcharge is published, and no flat race-day fare is published.
Meetings that sit on the course
A board meeting, a client lunch or a site walk on November 1 needs the building's cross street, not the neighborhood. First Avenue on the east side, Fifth Avenue, Central Park and the bridges named in the course are the wrong default pins while those segments are closed. Ask the office which entrance it will actually use that Sunday, and whether that entrance is on the course. If the host cannot answer, stage the car on a parallel street the advisory still lists as open and have the traveler walk the last block.
Brooklyn is on the course before Queens. A Williamsburg door and a downtown Brooklyn door are not the same curb, so car service in Brooklyn still starts from the entrance, plus a closure note. Name who may move a stop and the passenger's mobile. Build an airport departure backward from the airline cutoff, then add the detour. A weekday drive time will not hold.
Where to drop off, where to pick up, and when the car waits
The practical drop is the closest lawful curb off the course, agreed with the building before Sunday. Do not send the chauffeur to circle a closed avenue. Write the backup cross street in the same note as the primary door. If the traveler is a guest at the finish and then leaves for a flight, the exit is the harder leg. Central Park at the finish is a crowd, not a driveway. Plan the pickup on a street the advisory leaves open, with a person who can see the traveler and call the car in.
Hourly service fits when the car must stay between a meeting and an airport, or between a hotel and a second address, while streets are still closed. Point-to-point service fits a single ride with no hold. Those one-way starts are $130 for a sedan and $160 for an SUV. They are starting prices, not a promise that every race-day pair costs that amount. The S-Class and the Sprinter are not on that point-to-point line. An S-Class hold starts at $230 an hour, $690 for three hours. A Sprinter with driver starts at $240 an hour, $720 for three hours, after the seat layout and the bags are confirmed.
Sedan, SUV or Sprinter on race morning
One executive with a briefcase is a sedan at $120 an hour. A traveler who still has a full-size suitcase from the inbound flight may need the SUV at $150 an hour. A leadership team that must arrive together from a hotel is a Sprinter van rental question, not three sedans that only look like one arrival. If people leave lunch at different times for different flights, split the cars. Two sedans held for the three-hour minimum start at $360 each. One Sprinter held for the same minimum starts at $720. Compare the schedule. The van does not change a closed street.
Send the date as Sunday, November 1, 2026. List every address in order. Mark the flight with the airport, airline, flight number and terminal or FBO. Mark the meeting with the door and the backup cross street. Say who may approve a change if the advisory moves the curb. Read the NYC DOT and NYPD notes again the week of the race, and confirm nyrr.org. Match the written quote to the hours you reserved. Call (929) 661-6909 if the flight moves after the confirmation is already out.
Questions assistants ask about race day
When is the 2026 New York City Marathon?
Sunday, November 1, 2026. It is the 50th anniversary of the five-borough course, from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island to a finish in Central Park. Confirm the public race page at nyrr.org before you lock pickup times.
Will JFK or LaGuardia pickups be blocked by the marathon?
The course enters Queens over the Pulaski Bridge, so the drive between the airports and Manhattan or Brooklyn can meet closures even when the airport curb is open. Terminal rules still apply. Add time on the city side and read the NYC DOT and NYPD advisories the week of the race.
Should a race-day meeting and an airport be hourly or one-way?
Use hourly service if the car waits through the meeting or has to try a second door. Sedan hourly service starts at $120, with a three-hour minimum of $360. A single confirmed ride with no hold can be point-to-point from $130 sedan or $160 SUV. There is no published marathon flat.
Where should a Midtown meeting stage the car?
Not on the course as a default. First Avenue, Fifth Avenue and the Central Park finish are the wrong pins while those streets are closed. Ask the building for a cross street that stays open, and put a backup door in the same reservation.
What vehicle fits a team leaving a hotel on race morning?
A Sprinter with driver starts at $240 an hour, $720 for three hours, when the group shares one schedule and the layout fits the bags. People leaving at different times for different flights need separate cars. Two sedans at the three-hour minimum start at $360 each.
